June 16, 2020 - Bell named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers

Bell has been named one of Canada's Greenest Employers for a fourth consecutive year, in recognition of our environmental leadership and ongoing efforts to improve the sustainability of our operations.

Bell was the first Canadian communications company to achieve ISO 14001 environmental certification in 2009 and has a proven environmental track record, including these highlights:

  • Since 2016, Bell has recovered nearly 10 million TV receivers, modems and mobile phones through the internal mobile take back process and Bell Trade-in and Blue Box programs, diverting 99% of hazardous materials from landfills.
  • We’ve installed more than 90 electric vehicle charging stations at Bell locations across the country.
  • In 2019 were successful in generating more 170,000 kWh of renewable energy through innovative wind and solar projects.
  • This year our Energy Management System is being modified to meet the internationally recognized ISO 50001 standard with effective energy management initiatives to reduce consumption, increase efficiency and achieve our greenhouse gas targets.

June 11, 2020 - Bell launches Canada's largest 5G wireless network

Today, Bell announced the launch of Canada's largest 5G wireless network, offering unprecedented mobile data speeds and Canada's broadest selection of 5G-capable smartphones.

Now available in Montréal, the Greater Toronto Area, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, Bell's initial 5G service will expand to more centres across the country as the next-generation wireless technology grows in speed and capacity, enabling unprecedented connectivity and an infinite range of new consumer and business mobile applications in coming years.

To further accelerate 5G innovation in Canada, Bell has also partnered with Western University to create an advanced 5G research centre, including the deployment of a campus-wide 5G network.

June 1, 2020 - Bell to sell 25 data centre facilities to Equinix

Today, BCE Inc. announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell 25 data centres at 13 sites to global interconnection and data centre company Equinix, Inc.

"This transaction reinforces Bell's strategy to focus investment on the network infrastructure, content and services necessary to advance how Canadians connect with each other and the world. Equinix, with its expanding platform of data centres here in Canada and worldwide, is well-positioned to maximize the opportunities these facilities represent for Canadian businesses in an increasingly global and interconnected data sector," said Mirko Bibic, President and CEO of BCE Inc. and Bell Canada.

"Our strategic redeployment of capital further underscores Bell's commitment to champion customer experience by leading investment in communications networks and services, especially as Canada manages and recovers from the COVID-19 crisis," said Mr. Bibic. "As part of ensuring a seamless customer experience for our enterprise clients, we are also pleased to announce today a partnership between Bell Business Markets and the Equinix Platform of global data centre services."

Equinix is acquiring 13 sites representing 25 Bell data centre facilities in 8 cities across Canada; Bell will continue to own and operate 5 other data centres that are located in its network central offices in Calgary, Halifax, Saint John, St. John's and Toronto. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2020 subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approval.

Jan. 6, 2020 - Bell today welcomes Mirko Bibic as President and Chief Executive Officer and announces his appointment to the boards of BCE and Bell Canada. Mr. Bibic assumes the chief executive role following George Cope's retirement yesterday.

June 26, 2017 - Bell wins Wholesale Service Innovation Award

June 26, 2017 - Partnership with Cable & Wireless Networks earns international recognition

Bell Canada and Cable & Wireless Networks (C&W Networks) have jointly received the Wholesale Service Innovation Award from Global Telecoms Business.

Working with C&W Networks, Bell Canada delivered a network solution to support a Canadian financial institution’s international operations in the Caribbean. This project included migrating the bank’s extensive network in the region to a new state-of-the-art network platform within a short time frame.

The award was announced in London at the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Summit, which showcased the latest network, design and product trends from around the world.
